I recently set up Home Assistant in my home lab server, which is running on Proxmox. Home Assistant is an open-source home automation platform that allows me to control and automate various devices and systems in my home. The setup process was fairly straightforward, and I was able to get it running on my Proxmox server without any major issues.

One of the first things I did was integrate my TP-Link Kasa smart bulbs and lights with Home Assistant. This allowed me to control my lights directly from the Home Assistant interface, and I was able to set up schedules and automations for them. I also integrated Aqara motion and door sensors, which send notifications when motion is detected or when someone is at the door.

Another automation I set up was a routine for my washing machine. I created a script that monitored the power usage and sent me an alert when the wash cycle was finished. This way, I don’t have to keep checking on the washing machine, I get a notification on my phone and can even set up to turn off the lights in the laundry room once the wash is done. Overall, I found the process of setting up Home Assistant to be quite enjoyable and the possibilities for automating my home are endless.
